I purchased this to get a mount for my motorcycle that could add the phone easily, remove the phone easily and detach the mount easily. It is compliant with RAM mounts, a particular type of ball mount used in car mounts, boat mounts, motorcycle mounts and even bicycles. It requires a 1″ ball type. To use this you will need two other pieces–a ball adaptor double socket (the equivalent of female to male, if you call the ball a male side) and you need a male clamp (for your motorcycle that is for the handle bars–one end of that goes into the double socket. The motorcycle holder I’m reviewing goes in the other end of the socket.As it’s winter, the true test of a holder, is riding. I don’t look at my phone when riding, It is a controller for music/audio and GPS which I generally glance at when stopped. That’s just basic safety—so vibrations aren’t a big deal to me given I’m basically advancing a song, or hitting volume. GPS screen under vibration (my last holder) is fine. This has shock mounts on it, which I suspect, having touched them will assist greatly. I have mounted my phone, turned it upside down, left right and the grip for holding the phone is very tight–the other factor about phone holders–don’t want to take a curve, hit a bump or have your phone fall out on the highway. I have mini velcro strips (bands about 6 to 10 inches long, that can be wrapped around this unit if it ever looked necessary.So the unit is solid, easy to adjust to hold your phone and offers left and right clamps and a lower clamp for top bottom. there is no over the top clamp but judging from the strong tensions of the left right and bottom, not a problem. It works fine with my case but if i wanted additional clamp strength (maybe) , you can remove your case and put it in this holder. It has lock down flaps that finalize the tension once you’ve adjusted for size. A clamp is available for the height as well with a lock down clamp.Mine is black, hard plastic and stainless steel–no idea yet how it would hold up over 3 seasons in terms of eventual rust..So great clamp–much of it’s function is dependent on the other two components–buy quality for your adaptors so you can apply adequate tension to your unit so it won’t flop, Make sure your handlebar mount also has adequate tension. I got that component from a well regarded RAM manufacturer with the 1″ ball .

This is the phone holder that works
I don’t usually get excited about products but this phone holder and the ram system really work and fit my needs like no other. I have the phone holder on an electric bike that I use for hunting and off road use and wanted to access my onx while riding but didn’t want my phone crashing to the ground and breaking. Well I have done everything but wreck the bike and this mount has not let me down, it holds the phone and doesn’t let go until you’re ready and that’s a flick of the finger and the phones off the mount and in your hand ready to go. Seems like it’s going to hold up well the whole system works well I also have a gps mount that goes in the same handlebar attachment. One thing- you have to buy the system for this particular part to work this isn’t a stand alone product so it’s not one and done I just happened to have the system already

The width measurment is an outside number: ie 3.46″ My cell phone with protective case measures 3.125″ and does not fit the item.

Excellent quality, solid grip
I’ve used a number of these phone holders in a variety of configurations. This one is the best for gripping the phone without loosening as it doesn’t rely on spring tension the way most others do. It’s easy to adjust to the phone dimensions and applies as much grip as you want. I’m positively impressed with the quality of the build and feel I can expect reasonably long life from this device.
