Fantastic ShopVac
We live in a 125yo farmhouse on a (now hobby) farm. I am fairly certain there are ancient spiders in the basement alone, impervious to all insecticides, and determined to win the war that determines who really owns this house. We have big dogs of the major shedding type, floofy malamute, husky, GSD, with a shorthair pointer’s tiny little hairs to really challenge any vacuum. The sunroom/3 season greenhouse is constantly covered in potting soil, no matter how careful I try to be. The mudroom is literally covered in mud any time it rains, and husky’s fur behaves like cobwebs and collects in every crack, crevice and ceiling fan blade as if its taking the spiders’ side in the war. That doesn’t even consider the constant renovation going on around here. A room a year, and its a very big old Victorian house, so there’s constant dust everywhere, both from the walls and the dirt road.Suffice it to say, our regular household vacuum is not enough for many messes. A shop vac is as necessary as dish detergent and a broom around here. This is something like our 4th one since we bought the place, and so far its the best. Its a little big for housekeeping, I admit, but the HP makes it worth lugging it around during shedding season. Plus the casters make it fairly easy to pull around on any given floor. Its also nice that we don’t have to constantly empty it. The suction power is phenomenal (take that spiders!). Its easy to empty and clean, and the additional attachments make it more versatile, tho I wish the flat one was wider (good thing I saved my old one 😉).Haven’t had to use the wet vac feature much yet, but what we have used, it works fine. Its loud, yes, but its a shop vac – its as expected.Everything seems sturdy enough, but for one thing… the cool little tool hanger that attaches to the back to keep the tubes in is way too flimsy and pops off everytime you try to use it, making it virtually useless. My other complaint is how short the power cord is, but we keep a heavy duty extension cord with the vac and its fine, I can still do the stairs without having to go up and down, unplugging and replugging. Get yourself an extension cord – trust me.Otherwise tho, its perfect for our needs. The price was excellent. Mind you, we’ve only had it for a few months, so how it will hold up long term remains to be seen.

The Good & The Not So Good
The Good… It’s light weight and rolls around pretty well. Suction power is very good for such a small vac. Hose and attachments seem to be average / decent quality. Overall I like the vac.The not so good… The casters were a real bear to get in place. I ended up coating the shafts with car wax (carnuba) and was able to pound them into place with the palm of my hand, with a lot of force. Lack of drain port at the bottom of the canister, there should be one. Lack of tool storage. The power cord is only about 6 ft. long. Lastly, the latches used to connect/disconnect the motor from the drum were really difficult to engage and release. One reviewer mentioned that his had developed stress cracks. To help with the stress/force required to manipulate the latches, I coated the wear surface areas on the latches and top of the drum with car wax. That made it so there’s much less force needed to engage the latches, and hopefully less stress on the plastic parts. Time will tell.I could have gotten a comparable vac from Harbor Freight or some other less expensive brand. But a plus is the fact that this is “Shopvac” brand, so parts and accessories should be readily available.11/8/23 edit: The foam filter cover that came with the vac was too small to fit over the filter. It split apart when I attempted to put it over the filter. “One size” does not fit all…. I’ll see if I can find another one on line that fits.

Nice mid size vacuum…does the job…
Tired of tipping over smaller shop vac…this is nice sized for easy navigating. Have 2 larger, and several smaller vacuums. This is my go-to vacuum with the 6 hp suction….

My unit was defective. worked great for 5 minutes then next day would not power on.
I am sure it is a great vacuum for most customers. I unpacked it and used it 5 minutes picking up a few tablespoons of dust and small items. It sounded like a normal shop vac and had very good suction. The next day I wanted to do heavy cleaning, and discovered it would not power on. I checked the wall plug and plugged another item in and it powered up right away. i even moved the plug to a different wall plug after verifying another electrical item could power on using that plug but there was no change. The manual troubleshooting page does not mention this ‘NO POWER WHEN TOGGLING THE POWER SWIITCH problem.’ I searched online and was informed ‘some’ shop vac models have a red or black ‘reset button’ somewhere on the motor. I looked on top and below the motor – even removing the filter but could find no reset button. I Checked to make sure hose was not stopped up. There was certainly no dirt stuck anywhere except the tiny amount I vacuumed into the can since it was brand new.I called amazon support and they mentioned Shop Vac support was closed weekends, but would be open Monday. I had company coming Monday so I had to purchase a Dewalt vacuum locally and vacuumed the tiny amount of dirt out of the Shop vac before boxing it up to prepare for returning the unit.

03/2026Its a strong vacuum, however, its loud.It also busted my Dust Right Separator bucket. The top cracked badly due to the pressure. The filter gets dirty so quick.I emailed Shop-vac for a separator alternative and solution and they have never replied since I bought it in 2025.
