It does not open or close without power, but check the screw in the threaded ball joint capture as it may need tightening downIt works for me in my F150 only because i had a previous flat suction disc from previous mount as my dash is not smooth & i have never had any luck using windshield mounting over time they always come down. Potential future problem is in that the ball capture mount is secured by 1 small screw & washer. The first one i got someone had damaged trying to open without power i think, but that screw was not tightened down & as a result the ball joint shook. I would also strongly suggest buying a higher quality properly shielded usb cable especially if you are getting your QC3 power from an FM transmitter.

great fit loved it the only thing is the head that hold the phone quit working and stopped charging, i use it a lot as a delivery driver so every stop it probably opens an closes 20 plus times a day so it no longer chargers the phone or opens an closes
