Review of NORTHYUN brand – Quick Release Universal Hood Ditch Light Mounting Brackets, Dual Mount Options with 5-Point Lockdown Base CNC Aluminum Adjustable Mount Kit 2PCS, Black, $31.19Unboxing: 4 mounting brackets (2 hood mounts+ 2 quick release), 4 hex-headed screws, 2 nuts, and 3 Allen keys (all different sizes), and 1 instruction sheet (pic1).VALUE: This is the second set of universal hood mounts that I got for my vehicle through Amazon. My first set was from a different brand (NILIGHT) and priced at HALF of this kit. However this kit also includes the two quick release brackets so it’s hard to compare apples to oranges. I feel that this kit is overpriced given what you’re getting.It’s pretty intuitive to use this kit however there are instructions to help you especially if you’re unfamiliar with how to use the quick release mounts (pic2).What I like about this kit:There is 4 points of tension adjustment underneath the brackets so you get a good secure grip on your hood from 4 connection points (pic3).Unfortunately that was the only good thing about this adapter kit.Things I didn’t like:The metal plate that makes contact with your hood lacks a rubber gasket meaning raw sharp steel touching and scratching your car (pic4).The hood bracket is not jointed. Because it cannot open it limits the width that it can accommodate (pic5).The center plate is made of sharp stamped metal. It’s unfinished and has sharp edges. Also, the two teeth sticking downwards makes no sense because it blocks the adapter from sliding under my hood. I had to take out this entire piece before I could fit the adapter on my hood (pic6).And the last thing about this I didn’t like is the design choice to use 3 different hex headed screws so you have to carry around THREE allen keys instead of using a single size.Final thoughts: perhaps I got spoiled using another brand that was better designed. I found this adapter kit by NORTHYUN to be cumbersome to adjust and frustrating to use. It lacks refinement and has a lot of room for improvement. The lack of a rubber pad between the sharp metal and the paint job on hood probably bothers me the most.Yes, this adapter kit is made of quality metal and is well machined. But, it doesn’t matter how amazing the quality of the metal is if it it’s hard to use and doesn’t perform well. This quick release universal hood kit is not for me. I just couldn’t overlook the flaws. Unless you need to have the quick release feature, you’re better off going with another brand that is better priced and better designed.

Good universal fit ditch light mount
If you plan to add ditch lights to your rig these would be an economical solution for a universal fit. My truck did not have a lot of hood hinge mounting options so I found these that mount on the hood lip directly. These are quick connect/disconnect in case you don’t always want to have the lights on the hood. The disconnect leaves the less obvious base mount in place but the light can be easily removed. They tighten down using set screws, it comes with multiple allen wrenches for the various size screws you will need to mount the base to the hood, the light to the base, etc. They hold tightly to the hood, there is some vibration, you can’t feel it but you can see it a bit as the light shakes but that is going to happen no matter what when you are on a trail or off road over rough surfaces when you would be using these. A good solution that can be used for many different applications.

These quick release light mounts are well made machined aluminum with a nice anodized finish. The kit includes everything you need, including the different sizes of allen wrenches. One thing to keep in mind with the quick release feature is that there is no way to secure your lights against possible theft. These mounts are perfect for your vehicle if you only want your ditch lights on when you are actually going off road, and then take them off when you are done, while also utilizing a waterproof harness so you can unplug your lights. The quick detach feature works flawlessly with the push of a button that sticks out. With this in mind, if you intend on leaving your lights mounted to your every day use truck, these wouldn’t be the best option for you. If you want to take them off when you are done offroading, these will be perfect.

Two Quick Release Headlight Mount Assemblies Fit Most Hoods Without Drilling
This is a set of two universal hood mounted headlight assemblies. Each mount includes high quality metal materials (headlights not included). Each assembly includes a unique quick release mechanism that allows you to quickly remove your headlights for safe storage inside when not needed. Note these are mechanical mounts only, you need to supply quick electrical wiring disconnects to complet the installation. The included instructions are not clear but realize there are three sets of mounting hardware. Each set is a different size so you will have to experiment with which size goes where to match your intended setup. The assemblies also include three hex Allen wrenches for use with the hardware.Would recommend these to anyone.
